So that you and other motorhome drivers have a pleasant stay on the campsite, the Norwegian Motorhome Club has made driving rules for the site, in cooperation with Ålesund Parking, Ålesund Fire station and the local electricity inspectorate

Good advice for motorhome holidays

  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach from children.
  • Fit a smoke alarm in your motorhome.
  • Flammable waste, such as empty lighter fluid bottles, used grill charcoal and disposable barbecues, must only be disposed of in the designated place.
  • Check the connections of the gas fridge, including the connection to the gas bottle, before you buy a used or new motorhome.
  • Check that electrical appliances are in good condition and that they are used as directed by the manufacturer
  • Indoor electrical appliances must never be used outdoors. • Check the electrical system in your motorhome.
  • Emergency numbers in Norway are: Fire 110, Ambulance 113 and Police 112.
  • To contact the Norwegian national health service ring 116 117

Motorhome electricity hook-up

  1. You must only use approved rubber flexible cable (H07RN-F, 3x2,5mmÇor equivalent), which is approved for outdoor use. The thin red plastic cable type is not permitted outdoors and therefore cannot be usedfor electricity hook-up.
  2. The plug and socket must have a protection rating of at least IP44 and be of the industrial connector type (blue and round).
  3. The maximum length of cable from the hook-up point to the motorhome is 25 meters.
  4. If the cable is on a reel, it must be fully unwound before being connected to the hook-up point.
  5. Connection of several motorhomes to one electrical outlet is forbidden.
  6. Where extension cables are used they must have the same quality and capacity as the main hook-up cable.
  7. Cables crossing roads where vehicles can drive, must be protected by a cable protector plate.
  8. Remember to check all cables and connection points for damage before connecting to the electricity supply.

General rules for camping with a motorhome

  1. The wastewater outlet must be turned off. Empty wastewater tanks only at the designated place. If there is no such facility where you are camping, wastewater and septic tanks must be taken to the nearest legal motorhome service point for emptying. It is usually a good idea to invest in an extra septic tank.
  2. Waste is disposed of in the designated area. Please observe waste separation.
  3. Respect your neighbours’ right to peace and quiet, especially in designated quiet zones.
  4. Where it is permitted to make camp-fires and use barbecues, makes sure that these are used carefully and that they do not cause burn marks to be left on the ground.
  5. Make sure that you understand markings on water taps or hoses supplying drinking water and grey water. Don’t use unmarked hoses to rinse wastewater tanks or septic tanks.
  6. If there are no limits on the use of 230V generators or the running of your motorhome’s engine for charging of 12v batteries, this must be done with consideration for your neighbours. Ask them first - maybe they are also short of electricity.

Your safety is our aim

  • Always be placed a safe distance away from motorhomes and flammable material.
  • Every year there are many people who die from drowning. Call 110 in case of accident or emergency.
  • We recommend installing a CO (carbon monoxide) detector in your motorhome. A fire alarm should be mounted at the highest point in the ceiling, and a CO detector should be mounted at the lowest point inside your motorhome. Check the installation guide provided by the manufacturer.
  • All motorhomes should be fitted with a fire extinguisher, with a capacity of at least 2kg. Change the battery in the fire alarm and CO detector at the start of each season and check it every month.

Helpful propane tips

  • Propane tanks must be stored upright, in a well- ventilated place and must be secured from falling over. The maximum allowance of propane on board a motorhome is 2 x 11kg tanks or equivalent.
  • Remember to regularly check the hose and connector. In addition we recommend checking propane equipment before each use.
  • We recommend replacement of hoses every 2 - 3 years, dependant on use and environmental conditions.
  • The maximum allowable length of a propane hose is 1.5 meters (for example from a tank to a barbecue).
  • The pressure regulator should be replaced after a maximum of 5 years.
